Pastor Goolesby was raised in Northeast Alabama on Sand Mountain. At the age of 13, he trusted Jesus as his Savior. He felt God was calling him to preach at the age of 14, but he did not surrender to the call until he was 21; in February of 1962. He pastored two churches before he went to Bible college. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He later moved to Greenfield, Indiana where he pastored for six years. While living in Indiana, he received his Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Heritage Baptist University. After pastoring for sixteen years, he felt God was calling him to go into full time evangelism. For the next seven years he preached forty eight weeks a year.
In May of 1986 he received a call from Bro. Jack Cole, who was the founding pastor of Rome Baptist Temple. Bro. Cole informed him that he was resigning and hoped that he would come candidate at Rome Baptist Temple. After preaching on Mother’s day and the following Sunday, Bro. Cole moderated the conference in which the church called Bro. Goolesby as their pastor. He considers it a great honor and privilege to have been the pastor the Rome Baptist Temple for 31 years and counting.
